Our Story

It all began in 1937, when my grandfather – known to us as Poppi – was a visionary inventor who built the very machines that crafted “the good stuff.” His legacy was carried forward by my dad, Carlo Biagotti Edoni, who lovingly perfected those machines and for over 40 years created moments of joy with his homemade ice cream. On special occasions, he’d bring out a batch and say with a smile, “This is just the way Poppi used to make.”

Now, it’s my turn. Using the exact same machinery, built with my own hands just as Poppi once did, I’m bringing back our family’s traditional recipe for everyone to enjoy.

For me, this is more than just ice cream. I’m Riccardo – a husband, a dad, and now a proud custodian of Poppi’s story. With my wife and our little ones by my side, the village of Strathaven is Poppi’s home, and it means the world to us. Poppi’s Ices is our way of giving something back to the community that has given us so much – a place to gather, to smile, and to share in the simple joy of a scoop made with love.

Why did I call it Poppi’s Ices?

Well, I could have gone traditional and called the shop Riccardo’s Gelato or Edoni’s cafe, however ‘Poppi’s’ is a cool name for grandad in Italian.
